Notice the capacitors circled in red, they are leaking out of the top. The capacitors job, is to filter out ripples and fluctuation in the voltage coming from the power supply. If the voltage is not perfect, then all sorts of weird things can begin to happen. It usually presents itself with random blue screens and stud downs.
If your computer has a few years on it and you are experiencing random blue screens or shutdowns, the problem could be a weak power supply, or leaky capacitors.
